FERTIGATION? WHAT IS IT? AND IS IT WORTH IT? backflow requirements in Tennessee are the “cheat code” to affordable fertilizer injection systems
What the heck is fertigation and do I even need it? Fertigation is a technique that involves dissolving fertilizers in water and distributing them through an irrigation system. Think of micro-dosing. First, we tie into the irrigation main line and install a shutoff for fertigation servicing. Fertilizer is poured into a tank that is placed under the soil level, in a valve box. Water is delivered into the tank where it mixes with the fertilizer. A separate tube delivers that water back into the irrigation system. Whenever the system runs, a small percentage of fertilizer is put out through the sprinklers, drip systems etc. This method is very beneficial as it consistently feeds your plants resulting in healthier grass, trees and shrubs. No more worrying about getting that ironite or 15-15-15 down before the rain. This enables precise application of water-soluble fertilizers directly to the root zone of crops, enhancing nutrient uptake and improving crop production.
Prefer an organic fertilizer over synthetic? No problem. We proudly use EZ-flo products for all landscape fertigation installs. Veggie gardeners aren’t left out, either. EZ-flo has a full line of organic fertilizers to give your fruits and vegetables a healthy dose of mycorrhizae and beneficial fungi. Click here to see the full line: Shop | EZ Flo Injection Systems
EZ-flo also takes care of those pesky vols and moles taking over your yard. EZ-FLO CRITTER MAXX is an organic blend of castor oil that deters those pests from your fescue and zoysia.
why is this so great for tennesseans?
The EZ-FLO system is always installed after a backflow preventer. But not every state has specific backflow requirement that make a fertigation system convenient to have. California for example doesn’t require the necessary backflow that a fertigation system does in order to irrigate. This requires a CA resident to install a backflow specifically if they wish to get a fertigation system (See below) This can be very costly and turn many people away from reaping the benefits of one.
Since Tennessee requires a backflow for all landscape irrigation that is supplied by city water, residents are able to save a lot of up-front cost when installing a fertigation system.
